2020 Event Cancelled

Over the last few weeks, we have all watched as our nation has been turned upside down in response to the COVID-19 crisis. It seems to have come out of nowhere yet has shut down so much of life around us. While this likely comes as no surprise to you given the current stay-at-home order and mandates against large gatherings, we are writing to officially inform you that we must cancel our Miles of Hope 5k and cycle event scheduled for April 25^th. We never could have fathomed anything like this would have interfered with our fundraising and event plans this spring, yet here we are. This is obviously so disappointing but something we agree is necessary to help protect the health and safety of our entire community.

We also would like to let you know that we do not plan on rescheduling our event for 2020. Given the uncertainty regarding how long this pandemic will last, we do not feel it is feasible for us to plan an event of this magnitude under these circumstances.

However, we will continue our fundraising for Take It Away and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation online this year and will look forward to hosting an incredible event for you all next year! You can still look for other ways to support us on our website www.takeitaway.org.

Join us for our second annual event honoring two inspiring Chatham county residents, Kelsie (age 8) and Mackenzie (age 4), both of whom battle Cystic Fibrosis on a daily basis. Thanks to many of you, last year’s inaugural event, Take CF Away Cycle & 5K, was a huge success. This year we have rebranded the event to Miles of Hope and we are excited to announce the formation of Take It Away 501(c)(3), a local non-profit that will host this event and conduct other fundraising activities throughout the year. All net proceeds from Miles of Hope and Take it Away will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, an organization that is working tirelessly to fund life-saving research that will improve the lives of those affected by CF and hopefully one day discover a cure. This year, participants can choose between a 5k run/walk, a 22-mile bike ride, 44-mile bike ride, or a 62-mile bike ride, and enjoy family friendly activities throughout the morning, including a Pancake brunch. All runners and riders will begin at the start/finish line located at the Chatham County Court House (Justice Center), just behind the Chatham Historical Museum.

The 22- 44- and 62-mile rides will leave downtown Pittsboro and head south into the southernmost part of Chatham County. All routes will take you down country roads into the Bear Creek, Siler City, and Goldston Areas. The 62-mile route will carry you down the famed Devils Tramping Ground Rd and eventually, all routes return to downtown Pittsboro. The rides are fully supported with rest stops, SAG vehicles and emergency service.

T-shirts are guaranteed to all that register by April 13th, but we will do our best to have shirts for everyone.

This event is part of the Piedmont Race Series sponsored by DICK's Sporting Goods and powered by Finish Line Timing. Awesome award prizes supplied by DICK's. For 5K, Top 3 Overall Male & Females Winners and Top 3 Male & Female Age Group Winners in the following categories 14 & Under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70+. For cycling, Top 3 Overall Male & Females Winners for each of the cycling events.

10:00am: 22-mile Cycle Awards

11:30am: 44-mile Cycle Awards

12:30am: 62-mile Cycle Awards

8am – 1:00pm: Family Fun Day: Pancake Brunch, Coffee & Smoothies, Silent Auction, Music, Inflatables, Farm Animals, Kid’s Activities, Games

This is a free event open to all. Attractions and entertainment will be donation only. Pancake Brunch and food items will be available for purchase.

100% of donations and money from food sales will go directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation!!

Early Packet Pickup

Runners and bikers can register in person and/or pick up race packets on Friday April 24th from 12:30pm to 7:00pm at Deep River Mercantile, 115 Hillsboro St, Pittsboro, NC 27312
